The Sopwith Pup was a British single-seat biplane fighter aircraft of the First World War.
The Pup was built by the Sopwith Aviation Company and officially called Sopwith Scout. However, it was Pup (German: Puppy) called, because it was smaller than the two-seat Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter, which was also called Sopwith Scout. The pup had been derived from the personal aircraft of the Sopwith-chief test pilot Harry Hawker.
The Pup was flying a very agile fighter and very pleasant and easy. Her large wings gave her a good rate of climb Manovrierfähigkeit, especially at high altitudes. Although she had a weak compared to the Albatros D.III drive, she could fly representation of James McCudden two circles in the time it took the albatross for only one. Manfred von Richthofen praised the pup for their maneuverability, but criticized its lack of dive assets. The Pup was synchronized with a 7.7-mm Vickers MG or (in the planes of the RNAS) with a mounted on the upper wing, obliquely upward-firing 7.7-mm-Lewis MG armed.
